Madison Brooks, 19, was a “bubbly, sweet and selfless friend,” her sorority sisters wrote on Instagram.
Authorities say a 19-year-old student at Louisiana State University was allegedly raped by at least two men and then left to wander the streets. The girl’s death has sparked outrage and calls for better security for students on college campuses.
Four people have been charged in connection with the incident that killed LSU student Madison Brooks. All the suspects are believed to have been involved in some way, and they are all currently in custody.
Cavon Washington, 18, and a 17-year-old juvenile have been charged with one count each of third-degree rape, according to probable cause affidavits obtained by PEOPLE. Both are accused of raping a 16-year-old girl in a park in November.
The affidavits show that Cason Carver, 18, and Everett Lee, 28, have been charged with one count each of rape. The allegations stem from an incident that took place on 3 October.
In Louisiana, third-degree rape is a rape deemed to have been committed without the victim’s lawful consent, in which the victim is “incapable of resisting or understanding the nature of the act by reason of stupor or abnormal condition” under the influence of an intoxicating agent or any other substance. also mind generated by reason.” The offender knew or should have known about the incapacity of the victim.
Brooks reportedly had a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit when he left Reggie’s bar on the morning of January 15. He also tested positive for THC, the psychoactive component of cannabis.

According to the affidavit, Carver told officers that he had never seen Brooks before and had no knowledge of him.
He said that when they were leaving the bar, the victim walked with them.
According to the affidavit, Carver described Brooks as being very unsteady on his feet, unable to maintain his balance, and unable to speak clearly without slurring his words.
According to the affidavit, video footage showed Brooks falling inside the bar.
She said she saw Brooks and the 17-year-old male hugging and walking together, and she asked him to go home.
Carver asked where her friends were, but she told officers that she was “drunk” and did not know where her friends were.
According to Carver, he offered to drive Brooks home and asked her where she lived, but she told officers she had collapsed and was unable to answer him.
Carver said he went to a nearby street and parked the car there. The affidavit states that she said she saw the 17-year-old girl ask Brooks “five times” if she wanted to have sex with him, and that “the victim verbally consented to her 17-year-old friend.”
According to the affidavit, Brooks and Brooks, then 17, had sex in the back seat of a car.
The affidavit states that after having sex with 17-year-old Brooks, Carver said he saw Washington ask her “several times” if she wanted to have sex with him and that she “accepted”.
The statement said Carver said that he and Washington’s uncle remained in the front seat while he “had sexual intercourse with the victim.”
According to Carver, she and Washington stopped having sex when Brooks stopped participating. Carver believes it was a decision made collectively by the three of them.
Asked in the affidavit whether Brooks was too severely incapacitated to consent to sex, Carver reportedly said, “I think so.”
At first, Brooks could not remember where he had dropped off his girlfriend, but later told officers that he had dropped her off at a subdivision.
At 2:50 p.m., Brooks was hit by a car and killed.
The driver was not caught by the police.
Attorney Joe Long said Brooks’ death was a tragedy, but it was not a crime.
Attorney Ron Haley told WAFB that the alleged rape did not occur.
She told the outlet that the two of them had a disagreement and she got out of the car. He believes he was about to get an Uber, so he wants the public to know that the drivers and passengers involved in this incident did not make him feel uncomfortable or unwelcome.
Brooks, a native of Louisiana, was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority at LSU.
